Our Story

Hi! I’m Sophie, and this is my mum, Lucy. Our small family business began the way so many do… around the kitchen table.

In 2019, we dreamt of finding a new way forward for our eco-friendly farm. Something that would blend our love of nature, craft, and the land, while also building a future that was good for both people and the planet.

Since then, we’ve gradually transformed our little corner of Wicklow into what we call a “living, learning landscape” — a place where you’re invited to unplug, recharge, and reconnect with nature through eco-friendly craft workshops and lamb-to-loom farm tours.

These days, we have a purpose-built craft studio (with a log-burning stove for cosy days), but truth be told, we still make all our big decisions (and the small ones too!) at our kitchen table.

I’m a silversmith and the designer behind Wild Meadow Jewellery — a nature-inspired jewellery brand rooted in my love of the land.

Before I ever picked up a jeweller’s saw, I studied Environmental Biology at University College Dublin and went on to complete a PhD in marine ecology. I then spent over a decade working in environmental education, sharing my passion for science, nature, and climate action with schools and communities across Ireland.

The shift to silversmithing came by complete chance — on a work trip to Sweden, I wandered into small goldsmiths shop and took an impromptu workshop for fun. I sat down, made a silver ring, and felt something click. I came home buzzing and what started as a hobby at my kitchen table slowly grew into a massive passion and a new way to help connect people to the natural world.

These days, I bring all that experience into my jewellery, workshops, and farm-based work — weaving together craft, ecology, and storytelling in everything I do.

I’ve been drawing since the time I could hold a pencil. I grew up on a farm just outside Dublin, where I spent most of my childhood outdoors – my happy place was (and still is) surrounded by animals, nature, and open skies. That early love of art and the outdoors has never left me, and it still shapes everything I do.

All I wanted to be growing up was a painter, but my parents insisted it wasn’t a “real job,” so I followed a more practical path and studied graphic design at Central Saint Martins in London. I went on to spend over 20 years working as a graphic designer and muralist, both here in Ireland and in the US. But eventually, I returned to my first love, fine art.

These days I work mostly on commissions, primarily in oils, though I also explore encaustic, watercolour, and mixed media. My work is often inspired by the land, people, and their stories, but I’m especially drawn to painting skies. The dynamic movement of clouds, the way light shifts – I’m always trying to capture those transitory moments in nature.

I’m firmly against the idea that some people aren’t artistic – I believe creativity is something we all carry. It just needs a little space and encouragement to grow. Helping others tap into that through art and craft is one of the things that lights me up most.

Our Studio

Feel time slow down as you walk up the wildflower-filled path into our cosy, purpose built craft studio, set right at the edge of our stunning 11 acre nature reserve. Our colourful, light and airy space, surrounded by views of the countryside (and our horses and sheep grazing nearby) is the perfect place to relax as you settle in to make something you love.

And don’t worry about the weather – our cosy log-burning stove, snuggly blankets and covered outdoor spaces (plus plenty of tea and cake!) will make sure that whatever the weather, you’ll be sure to enjoy your visit to the countryside!

Our nature trails start as soon as you walk down the steps from our studio, and out the back we’ve even got a sheep viewing paddock for cuddling our flock (for our wooly workshops), and a fire-pit area for making art and toasting marshmallows!

Our Farm

Tucked into the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains, just above Newtownmountkennedy, our 46-acre family farm is a place where nature sets the pace — and we follow. We believe in farming with nature, not against it. That means using regenerative practices, working gently with the land and seasons, and putting biodiversity and soil health at the heart of everything we do.

A quarter of the farm is set aside as a dedicated nature reserve — left entirely to the wild things — and it’s now home to a thriving mix of native plants, trees, birds, and animals. You might spot deer moving quietly through the gorse, or catch a glimpse of a rabbit darting across a path. The hedgerows are alive with songbirds, birds of prey wheel overhead, and the meadows hum with life.

In the fields, our rare-breed Zwartbles sheep (raised for their beautiful wool) graze contentedly, and native ponies and horses roam nearby. We also grow willow, which we use for natural crafts and workshops throughout the year. Windrush Farm is more than just a working farm — it’s a place where people, animals, and the natural world all have room to breathe, grow, and belong.
