Art in the Wild
A creative reset in nature
This isn’t a traditional art class. It’s an immersive creative experience in nature. Part craft workshop, part foraging walk, part gentle invitation to switch off and reconnect with your creativity.
You’ll wander through our nature reserve gathering inspiration and natural materials, before creating your own eco-printed textiles, charcoal leaf prints, and a handmade nature journal, and explore natural inks, brushes and mark-making tools created from the land itself.
No experience needed… just a willingness to leave your head behind for a few hours.
What you’ll experience:
Your experience begins with a warm welcome and an introduction to the creative ideas behind the workshop… that creativity is something we all have, and nature can help us reconnect with it.
From there, we head out into our beautiful nature reserve for an immersive foraging walk guided by ecologist Sophie & artist Lucy. Along the way, you’ll gather natural materials, notice seasonal details you might normally pass by, and hear a little of the folklore and stories woven into the landscape.
Back at the studio, we gather around the outdoor fire (or in our covered space if the weather asks us to), and begin working with what we’ve collected… transforming willow into charcoal, exploring eco-printing with plants, and creating with natural materials in different ways.
After a break for tea, cake, and roasted marshmallows, the second half of the workshop is spent in the studio developing your own handmade nature journal and experimenting with inks, pigments, brushes, and mark-making techniques inspired by the landscape.
Everything is guided, but never rigid… there’s space to explore, play, and follow your curiosity.
What you’ll make to take home:
By the end of your time with us, you’ll take home a collection of handmade pieces created throughout the workshop, including:
- An eco-printed cotton tote bag (made using a Japanese technique called Hapazome)
- Charcoal leaf prints (that you’ll want to hang on your wall!)
- A handmade nature journal
- A selection of mark-making tools
Each piece is unique, and created using natural materials gathered or made during the workshop itself.
Who is it for?
All of our workshops are suitable for absolute beginners, and no previous experience is necessary. Workshops are best suited to adults and older teenagers (16+, accompanied by an adult), however family friendly options are available for private bookings upon request. We keep numbers small so the experience stays personal, relaxed, and hands-on, so our maximum group size is 10 people.
Where and when?
Workshops run from 10am – 2pm, and are held in our craft studio on our family farm in Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow. For dates and availability, please CLICK HERE.
Anything else I should know?
As the workshops are held on a working farm and include some time outdoors, participants will need to bring suitable clothing (e.g. wellies/boots, rain jacket, warm layers on colder days).
This workshop does include some outdoor elements in natural areas on uneven ground. The nature trail includes some slopes, and travels over small logs etc. and the nature trail and farm paths are not currently wheelchair accessible. However, workshops may be adapted to suit participants with additional physical needs and we ask you to please get in touch prior to booking to discuss your needs.
